MX2 DH Series Display Port Routers with HDMI Inputs

Providing DisplayPort 1.2 Inputs with EDID Management

Lightware is releasing numerous new models to join the MX2 matrix switcher series, also including variants with mixed HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, allowing the connection of DisplayPort 1.2 video sources directly, without the need of adapters or dongles.

The MX2 DH series is a fully DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 compatible matrix router line, with a maximum resolution of 4K UHD @ 60 Hz in 4:4:4 format, while also supporting HDR, Dolby Vision, 3D, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. The DisplayPort inputs have locking connectors and powering the connected sources can be switched on and off.

The input signals are transformed to HDMI for signal management, and which do not fit in the HDMI 2.0 bandwidth of 18 Gbps are converted to 4:2:2, while maintaining bit depth and thus allowing for HDR transmission. Only Lightware DisplayPort to HDMI conversion provides the professional feature of maintaining the 10 bit color depth during 10 bit RGB to 10 bit YUV conversion, for LED walls and high grade displays.

The devices are HDCP 2.2 and HDCP 1.4 compliant with cross conversion capabilities, the HDCP protocol can be disabled where the signal is not protected, and HDCP 1.4 or 2.2 compatibility can be set under DisplayPort HDCP management.

Device control can be achieved via Ethernet, RS-232 and USB ports.

The rich feature set of the routers also include proprietary Lightware services and technologies including analytics and diagnostics, also specifically for DisplayPort standards.:

Advanced EDID Management

at each DisplayPort input allows individual EDID setting per connector and can create standard VESA or CEA and even exotic pixel resolutions for LED Wall usage

Restart Link Training

allows the DisplayPort Link Training to be restarted in case of no signal or bad quality, without unplugging the cable

Frame Detector

signal diagnostics provides real time information about the video signal: resolution, refresh rate, bit depth, color space and more

DisplayPort diagnostics and management

provides detailed DisplayPort-specific connectivity information: AUX handshaking, 1/2/4 lane count, RBR/HBR/HBR2 datarates. DisplayPort AUX-channel analyzer helps debugging and analyzing handshaking problems

With the exception of MX2-24x24-DH-12DPi-R, all other released MX2 DH devices feature audio signal embedding and/or de-embedding with volume control at the analog port connectors. A test pattern generator on the DisplayPort inputs enables embedding analog audio even if there is no video source present.

MX2-16x16-DH-8DPi-A-R, MX2-24x24-DH-12DPi-R, and MX2-24x24-DH-12DPi-A-R are R-type models, signifying a dual redundant power source with two, independent, rugged power connectors and reinforced RS-232 and Ethernet ports.

Open-source API technology at the core makes these Lightware products easy to integrate into third party systems. Device configuration can be adjusted via the built-in website, and firmware update is available through Ethernet.

Because of the DisplayPort to HDMI conversion and the HDMI based signal management method there are a few limitations to consider, some of which has already been mentioned:

  • Multi Stream (MST) is not supported, only Single Stream (SST) video signals are supported
  • 3840x2160 4:4:4 RGB 10 Bit video format is converted to 4:2:2 @10 Bit video format internally
  • DisplayPort input includes an active DisplayPort-HDMI converter, which is also detected by the sources, so not all regular options are selectable
  • AdaptiveSync / Freesync is not supported.

The new, DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 compatible MX2 DH series matrix routers will help you save costs, rack space and installation time, offering Lightware quality and long-time reliability out of the box. With a three-year manufacturer’s warranty and probably the best support services in the AV industry MX2 DH switcher line is the excellent choice for AV professionals.
