Secure Multi-Classifications Video Conferencing at RAF Digby meeting room

AVworx, a UK-based AV systems integrator specialising in defence and government projects, recently completed the installation of a secure multi-classification video conferencing system at an RAF Digby meeting room.

This groundbreaking project adheres to Secure by Design (SbD) principles to ensure the highest level of security. The solution, featuring Lightware’s award-winning Taurus UCX-2x1-HC30 Matrix Switcher, enables seamless management of multiple security classifications within a single room, significantly enhancing both operational efficiency and security.

RAF Digby required an advanced video conferencing system capable of handling various security classifications whilst maintaining user-friendliness and strict security protocols.

The project aimed to implement a secure, multi-class video conferencing system that ensures all data entering or exiting the room adheres to SbD principles. Additionally, the system needed to maximize room utilisation by enabling multi-classification meetings and video conferences while providing users with a simple, intuitive control interface.

To meet these objectives, AVworx implemented a range of advanced technologies and security measures. Adhering to Secure by Design (SbD) principles, they ensured all data transmission into or out of the room occurs over simplex fibre, guaranteeing secure and unidirectional data flow. Furthermore, a filtered and protected electrical power supply was employed to mitigate potential risks.

For video conferencing and control, AVworx installed Lightware’s Taurus UCX-2x1-HC30 Matrix Switcher to facilitate secure and seamless switching between different classified sources. To provide a user-friendly interface for managing the AV setup, a Lightware RAP-B511 Control Panel, customised to meet the specific needs of RAF Digby, offers a straightforward touchscreen point of control for users.

The audio system was upgraded with the Yamaha Adecia Ceiling Solution, ensuring clear and precise audio for all participants.

The control panel and AV setup were designed with a user-centric approach, ensuring ease of use for personnel managing input sources and video conferencing functions. Advanced encryption and access control protocols were implemented to safeguard all communications and data transmissions, significantly enhancing security.

The implementation process began with detailed consultations with RAF Digby to understand their specific requirements and security needs. AVworx then developed a bespoke design integrating the latest in secure AV technology. The installation was executed with minimal disruption to daily operations, followed by rigorous testing to ensure all components functioned correctly and securely.

“These rooms are equipped with advanced video conferencing capabilities, allowing us to conduct meetings at various security levels efficiently,” explains a Flight Sergeant at RAF Digby. “Additionally, the audio system featuring Yamaha Adecia ceiling solutions ensures clear and precise communication, essential for our operations.”

Following the installation, comprehensive training sessions were provided to the team at RAF Digby to ensure all users were confident in operating the new system. AVworx also established an ongoing support process with the client to address any technical issues and provide necessary updates to the system.

“The integration of Lightware's Taurus UCX matrix switchers and button control panels provided a seamless user experience, enabling us to switch between classified and unclassified sources effortlessly,” confirms the Flight Sergeant. “Beyond the technical installation, AVworx provided comprehensive training for our personnel, ensuring we could effectively utilise the new systems.”

The updated video conferencing system has significantly improved the efficiency and effectiveness of communications within RAF Digby. The multi-class capability ensures sensitive information remains protected, adhering to stringent security requirements. The ability to conduct multi-classification meetings in a single room has maximised the use of available space and reduced the need for dedicated rooms.

The project showcases AVworx's ability to deliver complex, secure and user-friendly AV solutions tailored to the unique needs of military and defence environments. The project leveraged the adaptability of Lightware's products and support, allowing AVworx to exceed expectations and set a new standard for secure communication solutions.  This project not only meets but exceeds the expectations of RAF Digby, and has set a new benchmark for secure communication solutions within the wider armed forces.
