This Girl Rows: Lightware Supports Lara

We are delighted to announce a unique partnership between Lightware Plc. and Lara Vafiadis a. k. a. This Girl Rows. It has been an honor for the company to support young talents, regardless of the field of science, and right now we are doing it so with rowing. We were always passionate about supporting big dreams and plans, because these kinds of people make the world go around.

Lara says that her main goal is to row more than 3000 miles with her boat from the Canary Islands, Spain, to the English Harbour in Antigua & Barbuda. The annual race begins in early December this year, with up to thirty teams participating from around the world. The race structure brings together an environment where teams from across the globe gather in the race village San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands.

The race offers different experiences to all involved. The challenge creates strong friendships and competitiveness gives way to the camaraderie that is required to complete the challenge. Upon finishing, rowers join a small community of friends that have shared the adventures of an ocean crossing. The mental and physical endurance will result in a life-changing achievement, that will never be forgotten.

Rowing solo across the world’s second largest ocean will push Lara to her physical and mental limits – there is a reason why more people have climbed Mount Everest than have rowed across the Atlantic Ocean. Lara wants to show women and girls that it is possible to achieve anything when we believe in ourselves. Her vision is to raise all important funds for three charities: these are the Plan UK, the Our Only World and the Prostate Cancer UK.

This row is dedicated to her father for all the times he went above and beyond- He passed away on September 14th 2022, he won’t get to see Lara finish but she knows he’ll be with her with every oar stroke to Antigua.

Lightware will soon be 25 years old, and looking back on this quarter of a century, we can say that perseverance, steadfastness, and faith carried us forward in difficult times, so we respect Lara's commitment, who took on an amazing adventure, which will certainly not be an easy one. The physical challenge takes place on the surface, the real struggle is fought mentally. Facing the difficulties that life throws at anyone can be a truly trying task, but when you succeed, there's nothing better than saying, "Yes, I finally did it."

Apart from the creed, we have another point in common with Lara, which is actually a coincidence, but now it seems like an interesting coincidence: the name of our new room automation system is also LARA (Lightware Advanced Room Automation). We hope, indeed we are sure, that both Lara and LARA will succeed in their respective missions.

We wish Lara a safe journey and good luck on her journey!

We encourage you to support the big dream of Lara. Visit her webpage here: thisgirlrows.com, and you can donate her by selecting the “Support me” button.
